Why “What Works for Me” Might Not Work for Your Afro Hair
Walk (okay read) with me as we look at why taking product advice from everyone else but ME (tongue-in-cheekful-cheek) or another qualified pro protection ends in tears. Always!

The Truth About Product Hype
Let’s cut through the noise, curls.
Every week I meet beautiful people whose hair has been through it because they followed product advice from a friend, a stranger on Instagram, or that one YouTuber with perfect lighting. The problem? Hair isn’t one-size-fits-all — and a product that’s magic for someone else can be a full-on disaster for you.
Here’s why:
Your hair’s current health matters. Healthy hair and damaged hair have completely different needs.
Your scalp health matters. That’s where the growth happens.
Your lifestyle & wellness matter. Diet, stress, sleep, hydration — all of it shows up on your head.
Think about it like this: if a doctor gave every patient the same medicine without checking their history, they’d get struck off. Hair products are no different.
Coconut Oil – The Shiny Trickster
Can it protect protein in certain hair types? Yes. Can it clog pores, weigh down hair, or make strands brittle in others? Also yes. It’s not evil, but it’s not magic either.
Shea Butter – The Heavy Hitter
Rich and protective, but if your hair’s not asking for that level of moisture-sealing, you’re just greasing the outside without benefit. For healthy, low-porosity hair, it can be suffocating.
Miracle Serums & Potions – The Fairy Tale
Hair grows in the follicle, under the scalp. Oils and blends can help keep your scalp healthy, but they won’t speed growth. Polishing the table doesn’t make the tree it came from grow taller.
Bottom line: your hair deserves more than copy-and-paste product advice. Get recommendations tailored to your hair type, history, and goals from someone trained — and still training — in this craft!
